Our week started off with our chance to have some music workshops. Dom came into our classroom and brought lots of Ukuleles with him. We learnt that the Ukulele is actually quite tricky to figure out. It took us a little while to be sure of which way to hold the instrument and which hand we use to do which job.
Dom came to see us again on Tuesday and we learnt how to play some notes. We learnt 'C' and 'F'. These were really tricky because you have to keep your fingers in just the right spot! Then we were ready to start playing some songs. We learnt 'The Lion sleeps tonight'. We found it is really hard to sing and play at the same time.
Finally, we were ready for our performance! We were really nervous as we made our way to the hall. There was a large audience there to watch us. First some other classes played the Ukulele and sang some songs, and then it was our turn! It was really nervewrecking! Some of us thought we would get stagefright, but we did a great job and Dom and Miss Huke were really proud of us! It felt great to perform in front of the school, it gave us a buzz. Dom said that the buzz we felt is the reason that lots of musicians perform in front of audiences all the time!
Here are some pictures of us performing:
As it was still Music Focus this week we also watched lots of other performances. One of our favourites was the Auckland Grammar School Bagpipe group. They were amazing, and very loud!
Somehow this week we also managed to fit in another trip to the Parnell Baths. This was our last trip so we were glad the sun was shining. We learnt about non-contact rescues, how to save people when you are standing on the land.
We also had a try at using Lifejackets. We learnt that huddling in a group will help keep us warmer if we are in cold water, and the water was really cold in the big pool!
Finally we had a try at jumping off the diving board while wearing our lifejacket. We tried to see who could make the biggest splash! Charlie wasn't able to swim as he had a sore ear, but he managed to take some fabulous pictures, have a look at these!
Wow, what a busy week, there is so much more we want to tell you. We wanted to talk about Maths, the Teddy Jar, the Rock Concert and the new playground, perhaps you could ask us about this at home!
