Week 2

We have had another busy week in Room 14.

On Thursday it was a big exciting day because we had a new student join us. Welcome to Paris Conway. She has joined us from Australia, even though she was actually born in New Zealand. We look forward to having you in our classroom, Paris.

This week was a bit of an unlucky week for Liam, he fell off the playground and broke his arm. Now his arm is in a cast and in a sling, which makes some things tricky in the classroom. Lucky there are so many helpful people around to help him out if he gets stuck.

At the moment we are working on our fish projects at home. We are finding out about a creature that lives deep down in the ocean and organising all that information into different sections. Then we are coming up with an interesting way to present this to the class. These are due in on May 16th, Week 4. From the ideas we have heard so far it sounds like they are going to be really fabulous. Miss Huke says she can't wait to see them all!

This morning we had a little bit of a treat. Some visitors came to the school with a variety of different musical instruments. They had a guitar, trumpet, saxophone, clarinet, flute and some others. We had the chance to try one out. The visitors are from Lewis Eady who offer lessons on these instruments. There should be a flyer in everyones school bag with all the details on. Here is a picture of Mavis trying out the trumpet.

This week we have begun a new type of writing - information reports. So far we have had an interesting time learning about this new type of writing. It is different to writing that we have done before because it involves facts and information rather than making up stories for our narratives. It also helps us to learn about paragraphs. This week we wrote an information report about our school. We found it is quite hard to not just write a list, but we will get there with lots of practice.

Maths has also brought us a new topic this week. We have begun some Algebra. We have been studying patterns and trying to carry them on ourselves, sometimes this can be trickier than it sounds. Perhaps we will have a look to see if we spot any patterns outside of school!

Our computer session is up and it is time for lunch! Watch this space for Week 3!
