Term 2, Week 1

We are back at school after a lovely long holiday and we are all very pleased to see each other!
It sounds like everyone had a really fun holiday:

Sophie went to Los Angeles and visited some theme parks - "I enjoyed my holiday, my favourite thing was going on a giant rollercoaster called California Scream."

Eva went to Whitianga and then to Pauanui - "At Whitianga it was Easter and we had an Easter hunt and stayed out really late playing spotlight."

Zara had a big easter hunt with her neighbours - "It was really cool but it took me and Blaine all day to find all of the easter eggs."

Max went to his Aunty's new house - "We swam in their pool and had a spa. We had fish and chips and then I stayed over the next night."

Charlie went to Matapouri - "We went out on our boat and we caught a big kawai and I caught the biggest snapper on the boat."

Liam went to his Nana's house - "Nana had a new pool and it was really hot and had bubbles. I cannonballed into the new pool."

Rohan went Devonport - "Mum had some friends over there and we went to a candy shop and I brought a lollipop that was 10 inches long!"

Tommy went to Devonport on the ferry -"Me and Tai went to the movies and watched The Avengers, it was really cool."

Miss Huke did a lot of relaxing and getting her house ready for the new baby - "Nana came and painted some little paw prints on the wall, I hope the baby likes cats!"

This week was an interesting week because on Wednesday we didn't come to school. This was because we were commemorating ANZAC day. This is a day for us to remember all the brave men and women who have died whilst fighting for our country. We learnt a lot about ANZAC day this week.

"We should thank those people who fought for us in a nice way and remember them because they died for us." - Erin

"We wear poppies for soldiers who fought. ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps" - Sophie

"In London there was a blackout, they had to keep the lights off for a long time so that the Germans didn't know where to bomb." - Max

We were lucky this week because we didn't have to bring in our homework diaries on Friday. That is because our homework for the next few weeks is our project on a deep sea creature! Already we have heard about some great ideas that people are working on! It sounds like there are lots of fantastic models being made, some fabulous movies being created and lots of brand new facts being learnt! Our teacher says she can't wait to see all our projects!

Today we are going to have a vote on our favourite books from the finalists in the New Zealand Post Book Awards. We will choose one from the fiction books and one from the non-fiction books. 'The Cat's pyjamas' and 'Nice day for a war', are looking like the favourites at the moment but we will find out for sure this afternoon.

That's all this week!
